Ban Assault Weapons
Those who argue against a ban say assault weapons are rarely used in murder cases and should, therefore, not be banned. By that logic you can say rocket-propelled grenades (and nuclear weapons) are almost never used in robberies & murders, so private citizens should be allowed to purchase them.
Another argument: If someone wants to kill you they can do it with a knife. True, but at least you have to be in the same room. With an assault weapon you can kill not just your intended victim, but also lots of other people, at great distances, and through walls!
Is this the power assault weapons fans want? We believe so. We believe they are less fans of the second amendment than they are fans of shooting people through walls.
Clearly this has nothing to do with hunting. Hunters don’t use machine guns. Well, not REAL hunters.
They also say any limitation on guns is a slippery slope, that it will lead to the banning or confiscation of all guns. By this logic the law that limits interstate speeds to 75 mph is also a slippery slope that will eventually lead to speed limits of -0- and the confiscation of all motor vehicles.
Gun lovers play on you fear. Fear of bad guys, fear of government.
Well we fear too. We fear that four out of every five houses in our neighborhood have guns. It hasn’t made us any safer. There is still crime everywhere.
It may even make the criminals fear too. If they break into your house and you are home, they may have to shoot you just in case you have a gun. Ever thought of that? Or is the solution even more weapons? THAT should make us safer.
The weapons of choice in the recent Mumbai massacre were assault weapons. Why did they choose assault weapons? Why, why, why…..
