Fox & Friends & Fear
By Wink
In the cable-news world, Fox is number one, by a lot.
What does this mean? It means a lot of people like/believe what they see on Fox.
News Flash: Fox is not interested in truth. ‘Truth’ is not their business. Viewers are their business. A large audience means more advertising dollars.
It is possible, I presume, to present issues honestly and still make money. It is just so much work though. You have to have actual reporters, and fact-checkers to make sure your reporters aren’t just making up sh**. It takes time and money to make sure what you are reporting is true.
Plus, often, the truth is SO BORING. Boring TV drives viewers to other channels.
Imaginary stories are not a new concept. Newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst made sure his papers were filled with salacious (frequently made-up) stories, and watched them fly off the newsstands.
He loved it, and profited immensely from it. ‘Right and wrong’ were not allowed to get in the way of making money. ***
Fox treats their audience the same way. Their marketing department determined that many people need ‘bad guys’ … people we can blame for all our troubles.
And not just real troubles. Almost daily Fox ‘reports’ about some imaginary issue or ‘future’ problem.
The king of this, of course, is Glenn Beck.
Despite all evidence to the contrary he, and just about everybody else on Fox, regularly beat the drum about birth certificates, death panels, swift boats, etc, etc.
Truth be damned. We need bad guys.
Now, according to Beck/Fox, the current biggest threat to the world is the Muslim Brotherhood. Apparently they are taking over Egypt, the middle east, and the whole world, INCLUDING THE GOOD OLD U.S. of A..
From a real reporter, here is a current update on the Muslim Brotherhood….
They aren’t even seeking power in Egypt. They are seeking freedom.
Why would we not support some sort of effort at freedom and maybe, democracy, in a former dictatorship?
No one knows what will result from the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, but Egyptians deserve at least a shot at freedom.
But why let truth get in the way of a good/scary story?

***Hearst’s phony/sensationalized stories were eventually tagged with the moniker ‘yellow journalism,’ which is clearly apropos to much of what Beck and Fox do…
