McCain: In Fear, All Smear

McCain has recently decided in light of low poll numbers and his inability to gain ground on the economy issue, decided to leave the issues and go on the attack. His newest line of attack is Obama’s connection with Bill Ayers, with Sarah Palin stating “[Obama] is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.” Obama served on the same board as Ayers, were both once at a meet-and-greet, and they live in the same neighborhood. Other than that are not really connected much at all. But this gets away from the main topic (starting to act like McCain), McCain has decided not to pursue real issues that matter to the American people, but instead focus on attacking Obama with sometimes sketchy accusations.

McCain once denounced negative campaigning, and personal attacks, but when the numbers are low, apparently anything goes. McCain must be think “What worked for Bush in 2000 should work for me now.” I guess you know what they say about payback. But payback in this case is like attacking the paper boy for being fired from your job (unless of course the paper boy caused you to be fired by placing a newspaper in your exhaust pipe and killing your engine). In reality McCain really, really wants to be president and has told his advisors that he will do anything it takes, they responded with “anything?” So don’t expect anything substantive from McCain for the rest of the election cycle. He doesn’t have what the country wants, so he has to resort to making the country think that the other guy doesn’t either.

Let’s hope the debate tonight sticks to the issues.
