I have always felt it is a waste to not utilize ex-presidents more fully. What do they do when they leave office?
Many recent presidents have gotten very wealthy on speaking engagements. I don’t really begrudge them that.
It is nice that Jimmy Carter has raised awareness of Habitat for Humanity, and promoted democracy by monitoring elections [...]

The first real mistake admitted by a president in almost a decade.  Sure the mistake wasn’t large, essentially failing to vet Tom Daschle, and find that he has some unpaid taxes.  But this is a major step forward in the office of President.
The reason people didn’t like Bush was that he was caught red handed [...]

I imagine President Bush is watching all the changes right now and wondering….
“President Obama is sure popular. I suppose some of that is because he is new. I was fairly popular when I was new. And he’s got that ‘black thing’ going. It’s always cool to be black. He keeps doing cool things, and [...]

So we are in this meeting, and I say to my co-workers “You know the government has recorded all of your phone calls and e-mails for several years now.”

During the election process, Newsweek Magazine had a lengthy article about Sarah Palin. It concluded by saying that, while she does appeal to a lot of people, “mindless populism is just that, mindless.”
We were so pleased with that phrase that we burned it into our collective brains. Those of us who actually study politics and [...]

‘W’ Stands for War

Iraqi leaders are now gently pushing us (the U.S.) toward the door.
What was our purpose there again? Feel free to ignore the imaginary ‘weapons of mass destruction’ and ‘poison gas factories’ that Bush & Cheney used to drag us into an unprovoked war.   Let’s pretend that the real reason, all along, was simply to [...]

We can NOW call this a Recession, at a very minimum….

The causes of this recession are many and varied but, had the 2000 election turned out differently, the U.S. may have had a shot at avoiding or reducing the damage of this downturn.

Remember, we had many years of budget SURPLUSES during the Clinton administration.  Surpluses tend to [...]
